The Bwigamiro Country home is 15km from Fort Portal. Its a multiple generation home in an expansive estate overlooking the Rwenzori Mountains.
The housing development on the estate over the last 50years comprises of old and new buildings roofed with tiles, sheets and thatch for the gazebo and the tree houses. The designs were to provide orientation to western view (Rwenzori’s) with extended verandahs that allow sunshading.
Sustainable energy sources have been used for lighting and solar heating. Biogas is used for cooking. Building materials for construction of cottages
and other elements include timber for cladding floor, roof structure, furniture and sculpture have been produced from the estate.
